Easy sample preparation

Send us your MD rolls or hand-cut CD strips, and we’ll take care of the rest. We offer flexible handling of MD rolls, including cutting them to size, so a specific size roll is not a requirement.

Measurement service

Tapio Measurement Technologies offers laboratory services for all paper and board grades. Measurement in precision laboratory analyzers at a slow track speed enables millimeter-level sample spacing and high accuracy. The results can be used for quality assessment, troubleshooting, headbox operation analysis, guarantee verification as well as the verification of online QCS systems.

For the laboratory analysis, either 20+ CD strips (can be hand cut) or an MD roll on a standard 3″ core is needed. The customer is provided with a detailed report on the findings, including profiles, statistics, spectra etc. as well as an online meeting with Tapio experts to discuss the findings.

MD samples

The machine direction (MD) sample rolls are usually obtained at the winder or re-winder, from close to the ends of a reel or from a cross direction location that is known to be causing the problems.

• The MD sample roll can be up to 75 cm in diameter

• The MD sample roll can be up to 25 cm wide (15 to 20 cm width recommended)

• It should be on a 3” standard core.

• Thicker papers or boards can be mounted on 4” or 6” cores.

Any MD shipped rolls can be measured, Tapio can cut rolls into smaller samples.

CD samples

For the cross direction (CD) at least 20 full width strips are needed to achieve a stable average CD profile.

•These samples can be hand cut across the reel. If a CD sample cutter is in use, up to 30 cm width is suitable.

• Make sure that each strip is wide enough to be cut into 20 cm strips in true perpendicular CD direction. Recommendation is to cut ~40 cm wide strips when hand cutting.

• Always clearly note the drive (DS) and tending side (TS) on the samples, as well as top and bottom (wire and top) side.

At Tapio laboratory, the strips are cut and taped into a “mini reel” on a standard 3” core for measurement, using the CutOff™ Sample Cutter specifically developed by Tapio for this purpose.

Paper and Board Analyzer systems

Tapio Measurement Technologies offers paper machine analyzers and measurement equipment suitable for the precision measurement of almost all paper and board grades as well as other suitable rolled products.

We offer two types of analyzer devices:
• Tapio Analyzer, a system for analysis of both CD and long MD samples
